Meet Christen Kirsammer
Owner and operator of CK Equestrian
Christen Kirsammer is the owner and operator of CK Equestrian, a boutique training and breeding operation based at Walnut Hill Farm in Dryden, MI. With a deep-rooted passion for horses and a commitment to developing both horse and rider, Christen combines over a decade of experience in the equestrian world with a unique approach to training, breeding, and horsemanship.
Before returning to Michigan to start CK Equestrian, Christen honed her skills on the East Coast, where she spent more than five years riding professionally for a renowned eventing barn. There, she focused on starting, training, and competing young horses across a variety of disciplines including eventing, fox hunting, show jumping, and dressage. Her expertise spans the full range of training, from groundwork to competition, with experience up to Preliminary level eventing and 1.15m show jumping.
Throughout her career, Christen has been fortunate to learn under the guidance of some of the sport’s most respected mentors, including Bruce Davidson Sr., Olympian Boyd Martin, and The O’Connors. These experiences have shaped her philosophy of training, which emphasizes patience, consistency, and a deep understanding of the horse-human partnership.
Christen is also an accomplished fox hunter, having ridden with several hunts across the U.S., where she has built a reputation for producing safe, confident, and enjoyable horses. Over the past 10 years, she has developed numerous young hunters, focusing on creating solid foundations that lead to lifelong enjoyment in the saddle. Her background in fox hunting has also given her a strong appreciation for the versatility and mental toughness required in a well-rounded equine athlete.
In addition to her training work, Christen has also gained valuable experience as a groom for Boyd Martin and Windura USA, where she sharpened her attention to detail and understanding of equine care at the highest level.
Christen is passionate about helping riders build a strong, trusting relationship with their horses. She works to foster a love for horsemanship, developing both horse and rider through thoughtful, tailored training programs. Whether your goal is to compete or simply enjoy the journey of learning, Christen’s approach to training is centered around the long-term well-being and success of both the horse and rider.
